The New York Compensation Insurance Rating Board (NYCIRB) is a non-profit, unincorporated association of insurance carriers. NYCIRB is licensed by the New York State Department of Financial Services as the official workers’ compensation rate service organization in the State. In this capacity, NYCIRB provides a variety of services to the workers’ compensation industry, including data collection and analysis, and the development of loss costs and rating values. These activities, along with analytical tools, research, and customer focused services, are intended to foster a stable and healthy workers’ compensation system in the State of New York.
 

The Database Engineer will be responsible for building complex database systems, optimizing databases, implementing data quality, and supporting development efforts. The individuals’ responsibilities are:

  • Design, implement, maintain, and optimize database systems within the organization, ensuring data integrity, security, and efficient access by managing database structures, performance, best practices and scalability. Working closely with software engineers to integrate databases with applications and address data storage needs across the system. Provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge of database systems.
  • Understand the business teams’ environment and technical challenges as well as their plans for evolving or creating their future state architecture. Using that knowledge, lead the analysis, design, and development of data solutions.
  • Build strategies for warehouse implementation, data acquisition and access, and data archiving and recovery. Builds data models and defines the structure, attributes and nomenclature of data elements. Will evaluate new data sources for adherence to the organization's quality standards and ease of integration.

The successful candidate must have a track record of designing and developing database solutions, ad-hoc reports, and data manipulation on the SQL Server and/or Oracle platform. Particular emphasis will be placed on experience in building and delivering stable, serviceable data solutions in an independent fashion with minimal supervision. Excelling in a team environment where strong collaboration and high work ethics are essential. Candidate should have development experience with ODBC compliant relational databases, SQL, and/or Oracle

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development and implementation using data analytics, database modeling tools and/or database interactions.
  • Work with business teams to gain and maintain a strong understanding of workers’ compensation data and how each department uses it, identifying opportunities to leverage database best practices, develop and enhance reuseable intellectual property and solutions.
  • Work with Solutions Architect, Project Managers, Business Analysts, and Developers in defining requirements and prototyping solutions.
  • Work with users to understand business requirements to create reporting or other solution specifications.
  • Review project requirements and assess and estimate the necessary time-to-completion.
  • Debug and troubleshoot complex data issues, ensuring the stability and reliability of our databases.
  • Designs report options and/or database queries to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Writing custom reports, SQL Scripts, Advance Searches and queries.
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code, while adhering to coding standards and guidelines, ensuring consistency and efficiency in database development processes
  • Document, propose and edit business data solutions and requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of backend software development experience required.
  • 5+ years of SQL Server Development and/or Administration required.
  • Experience in Database design and normalization.
  • Experience in Database management and administration.
  • Experience in various programming architectures.
  • Experience using SQL Server / Azure SQL, NoSQL, ETL tools, and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Have used C# Entity Framework with SQL Server and/or Azure SQL.
  • Ability to execute projects accurately and quickly.
  • Solid team player who must be self-motivated and punctual.
  • Must be responsible, and detail oriented.
  • Microsoft certifications are a plus.
  • Insurance industry knowledge is a plus.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Information Technology field
  • Or BA/BS in any field combined with relevant experience in the field

SALARY RANGE:

$115,000.00 - $150,000.00
